It’s Open
A weekend that will welcome both the library and leisure facilities, offering open access sessions to the whole community. Abraham Moss Warriors will deliver community sessions in the sports hall, and our partners Lancashire Cricket Foundation will run junior taster sessions to promote the new Indoor Urban Cricket Centre. A weekend programme providing organised activity and informal drop-in sessions to encourage all corners of the community to get active and visit the new facilities. More details to follow.
Following a multi-million refurbishment investment from Manchester City Council, the refurbishment has significantly transformed the landscape of the Abraham Moss Campus with the introduction of new, modern library and leisure facilities.
The investment is part of the Council’s long-term transformational strategy into the renewal and modernisation of the Council’s leisure estate to provide a sustainable future for its leisure and cultural services across the City and support aspirations to ensure Mancunians have access to live health and happier lives, through the creation of accessible space that truly cater to the diverse needs of local residents.
Abraham Moss Library and Leisure Centre will be fully integrated into Abraham Moss Campus as an important neighbourhood service hub. Facilities include a six-lane swimming pool, learner pool, steam room and sauna, two squash courts, health and fitness suites, (including gyms and studios), sports hall, changing facilities, along with new expansive library provision to service local communities in the heart of Crumpsall.
The Centre will also boast new indoor cricket facilities and become the very first Indoor Urban Cricket Centre in City, following £350k capital investment contribution from the England and Wales Cricket Board via the Combined Local Authority. The facilities will support local growth in cricket participation and will host a 30-hour dedicated weekly cricket programme on site.
The new Library is an ultra-modern open plan space accessible seven days a week, offering a welcoming cultural and creative space for the whole community with great books, free high quality access to Wi-Fi and the Internet, an exciting and diverse event programme for all ages plus speedy self-issue and return technology. The library will continue to play a significant role in helping to address deprivation and inequality.
Working in partnership, the co-located library & leisure offering will become the fourth across the city, increasing footfall and enabling fantastic services to be delivered in a high quality facility in support of stronger communities and thriving neighbourhoods.
The new build will continue to provide a wide and diverse sport, leisure, and cultural offer to its residents and will provide targeted services and programmes in response to local needs, designed to tackle health inequalities locally.
The modern building benefits from energy efficient and renewable energy technologies including; LED lighting, combined heat & power plant, air source heat pumps and solar panels, which all significantly will reduce energy demand from the grid. These measures are part of a long-term plan to provide sustainable buildings, contributing to the Council’s Climate Strategy and target to become a zero-carbon city by 2038.
