CRINGLE PLAYING FIELDS PAVILION REFURBISHMENT COMPLETION

Manchester City Council is pleased to share that the refurbishment of the Cringle Playing Fields Changing Pavilion in Burnage has now been successfully completed, marking an important milestone for local sport and community provision.

This project, delivered by Manchester City Council, has transformed an outdated 1990s facility into a modern, sustainable and more functional space that will better serve local residents and users for years to come.

The pavilion is home to Kingsway Athletic Junior Football Club, which provides football and wider development opportunities for children in a diverse and inclusive environment, and St Marys Lancashire GAA, a Gaelic Football Club based in Levenshulme, who have teams from U-7 and provide football training to the local community.

Improved Facilities for the Community

The newly refurbished pavilion now offers:

  • Modern changing rooms with showers and toilets
  • Dedicated referees’ changing rooms
  • A new kitchen with serving hatch
  • A flexible community room available for hire
  • External storage to support sporting activity

These improvements will enhance the experience for players, volunteers and visitors, while making the building more efficient and aligned with wider sustainability and carbon reduction goals.

The reconfiguration of space within the pavilion has also ensured it is more practical and cost-effective to operate, supporting its long-term viability.

Supporting Local Clubs and Activity

Kingsway Athletic Junior Football Club is currently working with Manchester City Council’s Estates team to secure a long-term lease, helping to ensure the facility remains a thriving hub for grassroots sport and community activity.

Community Effort and Volunteer Support

In preparation for the pavilion reopening and upcoming club activities, a volunteer day was held this week in partnership with Manchester Active, Manchester City Council Parks staff, and the site contractor.

Volunteers worked together to clean, tidy and de-weed the external areas surrounding the pavilion, improving the overall environment and helping to get the site ready for community use, including the club’s upcoming presentation day.

The images attached showcase the fantastic team effort and commitment from staff and partners to create a welcoming, high-quality space for local residents.

Next steps

With construction now complete and final preparations underway, the pavilion is ready to play a key role in supporting local sport, health and wellbeing, and community engagement in South Manchester.
