Bollyfit Active was founded by Shamime Jan and delivers women-only fitness sessions across the city with a focus on South Asian and BAME women.  Bollyfit Active’s vision is to: ‘empower women of all cultures, religions and races, creating a community of independent women united by fitness, health and well-being.’  The Bollyfit team delivers a variety of movement sessions, and walking.

Outdoor women's exercise class in a park

Break the Mute offers free walking activity for women aged 40+, especially from BAME backgrounds in Gorton and Abbey Hey: “We’ll walk, we’ll chat and we’ll lift eachother up because moving your body and clearing your mind feels even better when you do it in good company”.  Walks are 11am on Saturdays fortnightly from Debdale Park.

Levenshulme Lovely Ladies is a vibrant community group supporting BAME women aged 19+ across Levenshulme, Longsight, and Gorton. We create safe, inclusive spaces where women can build confidence, connect with others, and improve their mental and physical wellbeing. We do this through social and physical activities like walking, badminton, football, and coffee mornings. Our mission is to reduce isolation, promote healthy lifestyles, and empower women with life skills to thrive, especially during challenging times like the cost-of-living crisis. Join us and be part of a supportive, inspiring network of women making a difference together. We provide walking sessions and make walking a fun exercise. Every walk has a theme, for example, wellbeing walks, healthy walks, walking to explore nature, and mindful walks.

Aspinal Methodist Church

Aspinal Methodist Church is a thriving part of the local community with a range of people using our space for coffee mornings, gardening, warm space, alongside Sunday worship.

The space is an open and welcoming resource which is utilised by people of from a range of communities, including older people and young families.  Our space provides an access point to information and advice resources, especially to people who are newly settled into Manchester and for whom social connection, guidance and support is an important priority. The building is fully accessible inclusive and welcoming.

As a community organisation, the church is are rooted in our communities and know the nuances of the local area and the problems and issues people face. They recognise that where people are socially isolated, with a lack of relationships with others and little to no social support or contact there is a direct impact upon their health and wellbeing, and that there is associated risk even if people don’t feel lonely. By providing a regular and ongoing opportunity for social connection and activity, in a supportive environment, Aspinal will provide the opportunity for increased contact, stimulation, recreation and purpose.

Debdale Cycling for Health Group

Debdale Cycling for Health group – offers weekly rides, of various lengths led by qualified guides. A sociable group, set up to tackle anxiety, depression and social isolation. Café stop always included!

Meet 10am at Debdale Park Aviary (opposite the playground) for a 10:30 departure. Just £1 to cover costs. Bikes available to be borrowed if needed.

Debdale Ramblers

Debdale Ramblers offer free friendly weekly walks every Thursday in Debdale Park.  They walk for about an hour around the park and reservoirs before stopping for a hot drink and chat.  If you want to get more active and meet people, or you’re nervous about walking alone, then join the Debdale Ramblers.  Meet Thursdays 10:15 in the car park off Wall Way.

Wheels For All

Wheels for All have a weekly inclusive cycling session in Debdale Park, Gorton. They offer inclusive cycling for individuals with a disability/ long term health condition and anyone who would like to ride an adapted cycle.

Fallowfield Loop

This urban route in Manchester takes you from Chorlton to Fairfield and is great for walking and cycling for leisure or to get from A to B.

Along the former railway line, the route passes close by several parks, which make great stopping-off points. Debdale Park, near the northern end of the ride, is particularly worth a visit.  It’s largely traffic-free ideal for walking and cycling families and new cyclists who need to build up their confidence away from road traffic. Popular cycling café Station South is located on the loop, for you to refuel along the way.

Max Trax at Delamere Park is a community cycling hub which offers a range of free activities and events. The facilities currently include a learn to ride and balance bike area with a pump track due to be completed by the end of November 2025. The Beehive building is open during activities for seating, toilets, drinks and snacks at the kiosk. Annual community events take place such as the Colour Cycle and Santa Cycle and activities in the school holidays.
