manchester rides for women in 2024

Over 150 cycling women from across Manchester gathered for the fantastic Rides for Women event on a crisp, sunny day on Sunday 3 March as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.   The event was delivered by local community cycling organisations Station South and Bee Pedal Ready. Eight women-led cycling groups led feeder rides from different parts of the city, with all the women and eight rides congregating at the Emmeline Pankhurst Statue in the City Centre. The 150-strong group set off on a bike ride down Oxford Road and around Manchester, taking in Manchester highlights including Platt Fields and Birchfields Park.   The group included women and girls of all ages and abilities, and it was great to see everyone riding together with lots of support from bystanders. The ride finished at the magnificent Victoria Baths with a well-deserved lunch for the riders. GM Bicycle Mayor Belinda Everett addressed the group, bringing her passion in highlighting the under-representation of women and women of colour in cycling and bike mechanics. She also reminded riders of those whose activism has enabled today’s women to cycle, including the untold stories of the Silent Suffragettes. The ride finished at the magnificent Victoria Baths with a well deserved lunch provided for the riders by MUD Kitchen and funded by Bee Pedal Ready.   We then heard from all eight cycling groups about their work in the city and how to get involved. Feeder rides were led by Moston Cycling Club, Manley Park Cycle Train, Al-Hilal, Ladypedal, Joyriders, Bird Outdoors, Bee Pedal Ready and Station South. "It's great to see the passion and commitment across the city from community groups and dedicated people" In a year where Manchester was crowned European Capital of Cycling, the first city to receive this accolade, it’s great to see the passion and commitment across the city from community cycling groups and dedicated people, especially furthering women and girls who ride or connect with cycling in Manchester.   Do you want to #PedalMorein24? the manchester and salford cemetery cycle trail

Manchester and Salford Friends Groups have worked in partnership with bereavement services to bring you a cycle trail through Manchester and Salford's cemeteries.     As well as being places of reflection for those visiting loved ones, cemeteries are beautiful green spaces for all to enjoy, and this 32.8-mile circular route around the city centre takes in eight in Manchester and Salford:   1. Blackley Cemetery & Crematorium  2. Philips Park Cemetery  3. Gorton Cemetery  4. Southern Cemetery  5. Weaste Cemetery  6. Peel Green Cemetery  7. Swinton Cemetery  8. Agecroft Cemetery    With plenty of interesting history to read at information points in each location, the cemeteries will make perfect stop-offs along the route.     For those not wanting to take on the full trail, there are different routes and sections between the different locations for people of all abilities to experience. A trail map and route information are available by scanning the QR code found at information points on bike stands at each location.    With Manchester being awarded European Capital of Cycling 2024, what better way to #PedalMoreIn24. chorlton needs a new skatepark

As part of a passionate group of partners, we're supporting this crowdfunder to help raise £30k to build a new concrete skatepark & inject new life into the skating community of Chorlton! Chorlton skatepark is barely used for skateboarding and there is big support for it to be redeveloped. The existing park isn’t suitable for wheeled sports. The park is badly designed and the surfaces are dangerous when wet.  Informed by the survey, our vision is for a mixed park (street, flow and transition), with beginner friendly areas, more advanced sections, and a layout that allows longer lines across these sections. We plan to extend the footprint of the current skatepark to make it bigger, which will help ensure there are different areas that meet the needs of different skatepark users.   A new skatepark would be welcomed by the local community, helping to improve the mental and physical health of residents and the local environment.   We've been working closely with Skate Chorlton, SkateboardGB, British Cycling and the local community to outline how we can redevelop Chorlton Skatepark into one that complete beginners can enjoy, alongside more experienced skaters and BMXers. We aim to raise £300k, including £30k from this crowdfunding campaign, to build a new concrete skatepark   Can you help? find out more and donate here Please donate what you can to help make this happen. You can either make a straight donation or exchange a donation for one of the rewards donated by local businesses. It doesn't have to be big - every donation will help.
