Following the success of last year’s electrifying on-court action and atmosphere, we can’t wait to welcome another full week of Davis Cup Manchester Group Stage matches to Manchester at the AO Arena.

2023 saw a triumphant return of the prestigious competition to Manchester for the first time since 1994 in front of a record GB crowd of 13,000 spectators.

This year Great Britian, Canada, Finland and Argentina will compete in a round robin group with the top two teams qualifying for the Final 8 knock-out tournament in Malaga from 19-24 November.

The event will open on Tuesday 10 September with Canada facing Argentina, before the Lexus GB Davis Cup team getting underway on Wednesday 11 September against last year’s semi-finalists, Finland.

Bringing some of the world’s best tennis players to within touching distance of Mancunians creates a legacy that will inspire the next generation of players among our residents whilst cementing Manchester’s status as a globally recognised city of sport.

And as part of the wider strategic event delivery and legacy, Manchester is continuing to invest in improvements to the tennis provision as we continue to grow the city’s community tennis programme and courts.

Parks tennis goes from strength to strength.

In the past 12 months, Manchester has invested £340,000 in renovation projects taking place across Manchester City Council, funded by the council, UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation and delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts and open up the sport to many more people.

In May 2024, Fog Lane Park has seen upgrades to three new courts that are now open to the public 7 days a week.

Councillor Lee-Ann Igbon, Executive Member for Vibrant Neightbourhoods, said: “It’s fantastic to see the dedicated work put into redeveloping our much-loved tennis facilities be reopened to our visitors.

“Through collaboration with partners, our green spaces are now even more vibrant as we welcome tennis-lovers and families who are now able to take part across Manchester to bring our communities together over a shared love of sport in our parks.”
