Abraham Moss library & leisure centre
Manchester City Council’s commitment to invest and improve community facilities within your neighbourhood continues. Building on previous investments on the Abraham Moss Campus, Manchester City Council has now committed to build a modern, accessible, state of the art new library and leisure centre for local residents.
Whilst we anticipate some service disruption for users through the build programme, the Council and its partners will work to minimise service impact through this period.
To support this investment, a temporary library and a 4-court sports hall will be provided on site throughout the construction period. All other services will be relocated to alternative facilities. Council officers will work with the stakeholders, our leisure operator (Better) and users / clubs to identify appropriate alternative venues during the closure period.
Our construction partner Laing O’Rourke has now been contracted to progress the pre-construction phase which includes the design, cost plan and programme, following on with the construction of temporary services.
It is estimated that the temporary facilities will be completed for early 2020 which will be followed by the demolition of the existing building with the new library and leisure centre set to open in late 2021.
If you want to know more information about the improvements and what that will mean for you, we would like to invite you to come along to our informal public information sessions. The project team will be available to answer your questions.
